What is Plastic Free July?

Each year the City promotes PLASTIC FREE JULY – an international campaign to raise awareness about the abundance of single use plastic in our every day lives and to challenge individuals to make small changes to reduce their use of single use plastics.

Challenge yourself to make a few changes for the month of July and consider continuing the habit after the month is over!

What is going on this July?

1. Take the pledge! Go to www.plasticfreejuly.org and register for the challenge.Email sustainablity@myboca.us to let us know what you pledged. Leave your name, address, and email so that we can share tips and touch base about your experience. Those who reach out to let us know will be eligible to win an Office of Sustainability tote bag and set of metal straws to help with your plastic free journey.

2. Learn more! Visit the Downtown Library and pick up a book on low waste living, reducing plastic use, and a wide variety of other environmental topics. Look for the table display or search the catalogue!

3. Be plastic free at the 4th! The City’s MARS water station will be at the 4th of July celebration so make sure to bring you reusable bottle and enjoy free ice cold filtered water complements of the City of Boca Raton Utility Services!

4. Enjoy the parks, plastic free! Join the City to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month and stop by the Sustainability table to pick up a pledge form and learn a little more about our Sustainability program.

5. Come to the Intracoastal Cleanup! Do you enjoy canoeing and kayaking? Do you want to paddle through a plastic-free waterway? Be a part of the solution! Bring your canoe or kayak or borrow one from the City and join us to clean up the intracoastal waterway. No paddling skills? You can join and clean up the beach! (Registration information available soon).

Plastic Free Pledge

Plastic Free July aims to inspire change! You may choose to challenge yourself to one or two switches or go completely disposable plastic free! Go to www.plasticfreejuly.org and choose what you will do!

Once you’ve picked your challenge(s) and signed up on www.plasticfreejuly.org, email us what you selected to sustainability@myboca.us along with your name, address, phone number and email contact to enter for a chance to win an Office of Sustainability plastic-free kit consisting of a fold-away tote bag and a set of steel straws!

Winners will be announced in August!
(Must be a resident to win, but all are welcome to take the challenge!)
