Did you know...the City of Boca Raton has been a 🌳Tree City USA for FORTY THREE years...AND has one of the first tree protection ordinances in the nation!?! Trees are a powerful tool to manage stormwater and prevent flooding too.
Not only is Boca Raton one of the oldest Tree Cities, we also keep getting better. In 2021 the City earned a Growth Award for completing a tree canopy assessment and for our partnerships with Community Greening and the Arbor Day Foundation to encourage more tree canopy on residential properties.
In 2021 the City of Boca Raton conducted an assessment of the City's tree canopy. What the report found was a tree canopy of 26.5% with potential to increase that to 28% over the next 20 years.
The maps and data produced will help the city strategically plant trees and better manage its urban forests. In addition, the study will calculate the environmental benefits tree canopy provides to the community by reducing urban heat, stormwater runoff and nutrients, air pollution and removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
