Investigative Services Bureau

Captain Steven Meyer leads the Investigative Services Bureau. The Bureau investigates major crimes that occur in the City of Boca Raton.


The Investigative Services Bureau also works closely with other law enforcement agencies including Palm Beach and Broward Sheriff's Offices, U.S. Customs, U.S. Secret Service, F.B.I., and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. We actively participate in the Palm Beach County Auto Theft Task Force and Violent Crimes Task Force. We also participate in various federal task force efforts, such as the Joint Terrorism Task Force.


Investigative Teams


To ensure an efficient and professional approach to investigations, the Investigative Services Bureau is organized into specialized teams.


Person Crimes Unit


Our person crime unit investigates homicide, death, robbery, sexual battery, aggravated battery, and aggravated assault.


Property Crimes Unit


Our property crime unit investigates grand theft, burglary, and auto theft crimes.


Economic & Computer Crimes Unit


Our economic crime unit investigates fraud, forgery, and embezzlement cases. Our computer crime team investigates internet fraud, child pornography, cyber stalking and other crimes involving the use of computers.

Threat Assessment & Risk Protection (TARP)
Our TARP unit investigates incidents involving persons who pose a risk to public safety via threats or actions. The unit conducts threat assessments of high-risk and potentially dangerous individuals and has partnered with local, state and federal law enforcement organizations to investigate possible threats to our community.


Vice Intelligence & Narcotics (VIN)


Our VIN unit investigates narcotic and vice-related crimes. These investigators also gather intelligence on crime organizations and subversive groups. The investigators assigned to this team perform undercover operations as well.


Special Investigations Unit (SIU)


The SIU gathers intelligence and performs surveillance to assist in agency investigations.


Tactical Teams


The Tactical Teams target specific crime trends through the use of unmarked patrols in hot spots and areas of a high likelihood of criminal activity.


Crime Lab


Our crime lab and evidence team collects, processes, and stores evidence needed for the successful prosecution of persons charged with crimes.

The Victim Advocate reduces the impact of trauma to crime victims by providing an advocate for the rights of individuals, families, and the community.


Our Victim Advocate offers four programs and a variety of services to our community including:

  • The Community Outreach Program
  • The Domestic Violence Program
  • Training, Development and Planning Programs
  • The Victim Advocacy Program

Youth Crime Specialist

The Youth Crime Specialist assists youth in trouble and serves as a liaison between parents and law enforcement.


The Youth Crime Specialist manages the Juvenile First Offender program which diverts juveniles who have been arrested on first time offenses from the Juvenile Justice system into a sanction-based program. The position also provides Family Crisis Intervention.
