The City of Boca Raton’s Public Library recently announced this year’s One Book Boca, a community reading initiative, connecting people through shared reading experience and discussion. Titled One Amazing Thing, by bestselling author Chitra Divakaruni, the book was chosen for its remarkable personal stories that will resonate with people from all walks of life and cultures. When an earthquake traps them together, nine desperate people decide to share “one amazing thing” from their lives – a personal tale they’ve never told anyone before.
Divakaruni will be at the Downtown Library on April 13 from 4pm – 6pm for an author talk and book signing of her internationally acclaimed book. Books will be available for purchase and signing after the talk. The Boca Raton Public Library also offers print, eBook and audiobook versions of One Amazing Thing for check-out by library cardholders. A display of Divakaruni’s books for children will be on display and available for check-out in the Youth Services section of each library. The event is sponsored by the Friends of BRPL in celebration of National Libraries Week.
Following the author talk, Dr. Manjuath Pendakur, Professor Emeritus at Florida Atlantic University and member of the Library Board, will host a follow-up book discussion at the Downtown Library on April 18 from 7pm – 8pm. Registration for the event is currently open.
Interested in hosting your own book club discussion? A discussion guide for groups and book clubs interested in hosting their own programs will be available at Downtown and Spanish River Library and online.
