Boca Raton, FL – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) recently presented the City of Boca Raton’s Office of Management and Budget with the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The award represents a substantial achievement by the City and reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest values of governmental budgeting.
According to GFOA, to receive the budget award, entities must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and communication device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories as well as in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the distinguished award.
“We are proud to be honored with GFOA’s budget award again for the 38th year,” commented Sharon McGuire, Office of Management and Budget Director. “This program provides a best practice framework for governments to publish high-quality budget documents. Earning this award demonstrates meaningful recognition for our local government that we purposefully approach to strategize our budgeting, communications and stakeholder engagement.”
GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program (Budget Awards Program) in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
